Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways affecting 24.7 million individuals in the US, of which 5.5 million are children less than 18 years of age (CDC 2018). Status Asthmaticus is a severe form of acute asthma exacerbation that is unresponsive to the initial treatment; it is a life-threatening condition that needs critical care management. Implementing Clinical practice guidelines in management of status asthmaticus allows healthcare providers a stepwise plan to follow resulting in improved quality and efficiency of care.
