Presentation Title : Engineering the 2-Hour Marathon: the physiology & physics of perfection

Session Objectives:
1. To understand the physiology required to run a 2 hour marathon
2. To understand the mathematics, mechanics and physics of running, and how we can affect these factors
3. To understand how to apply the lessons we learned to athletes in medical practice
The Maine Osteopathic Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians.The Maine Osteopathic Association designates this program for a maximum of 1.0 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.
Dr. Skiba is the director of sports medicine for Advocate Aurora Health, one of the largest health systems in United States. In addition to his medical duties, he works as a coach and consultant to some of the fastest endurance athletes alive, including a number of Olympians and world champions. Dr. Skiba will be discussing his work with the Nike 2 hour marathon project, which was the subject of the Cannes film festival award-winning documentary, Breaking 2.
